Penetration Test Vs. Risk Assesment
While millions of dollars are spent every year on security assessment services, many times the purchasers of these services don’t have a clear understanding of how Penetration Testing differs from a Risk Assessment. The goal of this talk is to help the audience better understand the methodologies, objectives, and regulatory requirements for both of these important IT security functions. The methodologies used for both types of assessments will be covered to include applicable frameworks, preparations, procedures, and reporting. I will highlight how the differing objectives of each function impact the decision of which evaluation is needed. Finally, I will give a brief overview of regulatory requirements as they relate to both Penetration Testing and Risk Assessments.
